Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Program (RASP)

Free In-Person Training


The Education Outreach section of the NC ABC Commission conducts responsible alcohol server/seller training programs (RASP) for business owners, managers and employees at no cost. This hands-on style live class lasts 2 hours and uses video and open discussions to cover the following topics:

  • Prevention of sales to underage persons and intoxicated persons
  • Acceptable forms of identification and how to spot fake or altered IDs
  • Dram shop laws, happy hour laws, hours of sale, and other laws
  • How to protect your business, the public, and yourself

 Additionally, several approved resources offer live and online training classes throughout the state.

Free Online Training

The NC ABC Commission recommends that all employees receive training prior to selling or serving alcoholic beverages in the state of North Carolina.  An online Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Training course is offered by the ABC Commission. This course provides basic information regarding alcohol sales and service laws in North Carolina.  Please note: We recommend taking our trainings on a laptop or desktop computer and using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

If you are logging in first time, please create an account  by following the steps below.

Step 1:  Create an Account

Select 'Register for Seller/Server Training Program'.

Step 2:  Information Entry

Enter Business Information:

  • Search for a business that you represent that currently holds or has applied for permits, or select Other and input business information.

Enter User information:

  • Enter First Name, Last Name. Email, Phone (optional) and Position (optional).
  • Create a secure password.
  • Be sure to type your First name and Last name without typos, the name entered during the registration process will appear on the training certificate after the course is completed.
  • Press the Register button.

Step 3: Verification and Login

You will receive a thank you for registering email. Now that you have an account you will need to use the email and password you entered during the registration process each time you access the site.

Step 4: Take the Course

Select 'Start Seller / Server course' to begin.  Click Next to continue through the course and complete the final test at the end. 

Step 4: Certificate of Completion

Once complete, a certificate of completion will be emailed to you and it will also be available for download from your online training portal account.   If there is any issue with your account or certificate, please email Education@abc.nc.gov
